LOS ANGELES (May 8, 2009) – This Monday, geeks will unite with the release of a new collaborative video project entitled I AM A GEEK! .Presented by The Society For Geek Advancement, the video brings together some of the biggest personalities and celebrities in the online space to proclaim their geek pride. I AM A GEEK! also urges viewers and the community to “be the geek who keeps on giving”, and for the launch, has partnered with the non-profit Room To Read, building schools and libraries for children in developing countries around the world.


The I AM A GEEK! video, created by Shira Lazar, is a witty collaborative video capturing and satirizing the Web 2.0 / social networking, gadget lovin' phenomenon that is sweeping the globe, thanks to in part to companies like Twitter, Facebook and ofcourse, Apple's iPhone. The video is a rallying cry for geeks around the world to stand proud and unite. The geeks who participated were told to shoot their lines themselves to get a true personal video blogging effect:and the final result features some of the biggest personalities in the Web 2.0 space, including Shaquille O’Neal (The Real Shaq), Steve Wozniak (Apple Computer founder), Ashton Kutcher (Katalyst Media), Kevin Pollak (Actor), Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation), LeVar Burton (Reading Rainbow, Star Trek: The Next Generation), Jason Calacanis (Internet Entrepreneur), Samm Levine (Actor), Felicia Day (Creator of The Guild / Actress), Kevin Rose (Co-Founder of Digg, Revision3), Alex Albrecht (Co-Host of Diggnation), Leo Laporte (Technology Journalist and Broadcaster), iJustine (Internet Celebrity, Lifecaster), David Karpe (Founder of Tumblr), Pete Cashmore (Founder of Mashable) Brian Solis (President of FutureWorks PR Agency), Veronica Belmont (co-host of Revision3's tech-centric show, Tekzilla), Sarah Lacy (Sillicon Valley Journalist and Author), Randi Zuckerberg (Marketing Director at Facebook), Ton Hsieh (CEO of Zappos.com), Gary Vaynerchuk (Wine Library TV), Jonathan Coulton (Famed Singer-Song Writer), Kevin Pereira (The Cable Television Darling), Tay Zonday (YouTube celebrity), Julia Allison (Internet Celebrity, Lifecaster), Julia Roy (Blogger), Marina Orlova (HotForWords, YouTube Internet Celebrity), and video creator, Shira Lazar (Host, Coorespondent, Internet Celebrity).


The participants and fans of the project are asked to not only forward the video through their own communities, but also to tweet "#iamageek" on Monday to declare to the world that they are proud of their “geek” status. Also, Geek Giving will be urged by direct donations or by buying the official “I AM A GEEK” t-shirt with net proceeds going to Room To Read.
