HOLLYWOOD
(December 30, 2009) – Some wrote letters. Others placed calls.
When it was all said and done, the truth came out. People wanted The
Roots Jam Session back in place. It just didn’t feel right without
the annual celebration of music and musicianship, from alternative to
innovative to popular and iconic. Therefore, following a brief, one
year hiatus which allowed for the Grammy Award-winning group to settle
into their new home as the house
band on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, THE ROOTS’
annual JAM SESSION is back by popular demand for a sixth year.
The Roots Jam
Session, widely considered to be one of the most electrifying
nights held during award season, pairs a “who’s who”
of music’s best with The
Roots for a continuous, impromptu jam to a packed audience
of the backbone of the industry. Past performers include Snoop Dogg,
Travis Barker, Fall Out Boy, Seal, Queen Latifah, Corinne Bailey Rae,
and Matisyahu; past high-profile attendees includes Jay Z, Tom Cruise,
Prince, Beyoncè, Bill Maher, Dave Chappelle, Sharon Stone, Jeremy
Piven, Black Eyed Peas and Don Cheadle.
The night, however, is not just about music - anchored in awareness
and social justice, the live experience is a chance
for artists and executives to entertain, be entertained and get educated
on important issues affecting the world. Each year, The Roots Jam launches
a campaign to make the message of the night transcend the walls of the
annual celebration. This year’s jam is no different, partnering
with new high profile environmental coalition, GREEN MUSIC GROUP.
The jam will be co- presented by VIBE Lifestyle Network,
celebrating the newly re-launched Vibe Magazine and Vibe.com.
In the spirit of innovation and the discovery of new talent,
the Jam Session Team have also launched a
logo design contest in conjunction with their 2010
Jam. Exclusively run through @RootsJamSession
twitter page, the contest calls for artists, designers and
fans across the nation to create a logo integrating the words “Roots”
“Jam” & “Session” and to then twitter their
logo or link to their artwork to @RootsJamSession along with the hashtag
#RootsJam in the tweet. The winner of the contest will not only have
the chance to create this year’s logo but also be given the chance
to attend the anticipated, invite only live experience. The logo contest
remains open to the public until 11:59 pm PST on January 7, 2010. The
winner will be announced via twitter (@rootsjamsession) in early January
2010.
